Inset Cabinet Face Frame Dimensions

Question in the past i have been building exclusively overlay face frame cabinets but lately i have been getting some inset door jobs.

Inset cabinet face frame dimensions. Inset cabinetry features doors and drawers that fit inside of the cabinet face frame openings. The bottom rail is almost always 1 1 4 to 1 1 2 inches in width. For the overlay doors i have been making all perimeter rails and stiles 1 3 4 inches and all middle stile and rails at 2 1 4 inches so i end up with 1 1 4 inch of all of the stiles and rails exposed with my 1 2 inch overlay doors. Inset standard and full. The door and drawer faces are slightly smaller than the openings and recessed to align with the face frame. Framed cabinets offer three types of overlays.

Typical vertical stiles for face frames are all 3 inches wide. Create unique cabinets within our rta cabinet program by deleting the standard frame doors drawer fronts and then ordering a custom configured face frame which snaps right on the cabinet. Typical horizontal rails are 1 4 inch wide at the bottom of the face frame with 2 inch wide rails between drawers and door openings. Cabinet doors are about more than looks.

The basic structure of shaker cabinets is no different than any other cabinet using hardwood face frames which is almost always 3 4 inch thick. The amount of cabinet face frame or box visible when the doors and drawers are closed is called the reveal. The doors are installed flush with the frame hence the term inset visually when you look at an inset kitchen you will see a frame around between the doors and drawers. This type of cabinet construction gives a full view of the cabinet frame with only minimal spacing or gaps between the cabinet components.

Standard stile rail dimensions for face frames is 1 1 2. Different styles of door indicate different types of frame construction which affects storage space placement and cabinet size. All natural wood characteristics are acceptable on the inside edges. Please note that assembled face frames will have a size tolerance of 1mm on the overall sizes and 1mm within each opening.
